Today’s sunlit field trip to Greenhill Farm had Taylor, Jessica, Tom, and their teacher Doris buzzing with excitement. They fed bleating goats, giggled during a chaotic sheep-shearing demo, and took turns squirting fresh milk into buckets. But while admiring the stable’s chestnut horses, Taylor spotted a small pony huddled in the corner—its leg scraped and matted with dirt. The group sprang into action: Jessica gently cleaned the wound with water from her canteen, Tom rummaged through the farm’s first-aid kit for bandages, and Taylor soothed the trembling creature with soft pats and apple slices. Once the pony stood steady, they led it to a shallow trough, scrubbing its coat with lavender soap until its snowy fur gleamed. Laughter erupted as they braided its mane with wildflowers, tied a checkered ribbon around its neck, and watched it prance playfully, renewed and adored. By day’s end, the once-shy pony trotted beside them like an old friend, its joyful nickers blending with the kids’ cheers under the golden afternoon sky.
