Two miners scramble through the shadowed canyon, boots kicking up gravel as the ground shudders under the rotting behemoth’s roar. Its gnarled claws scrape stone, closing in. Ahead, a weathered boat bobs in a narrow river—their only escape. “Jump!” one yells, lunging as jagged rock rises beneath them. The vessel groans, its hull splintering at the slightest brush against land. They vault over the outcrop, crashing into the boat as it lurches downstream. Behind them, the zombie bellows, swiping at air as the current pulls them faster. Every bend threatens disaster—sandbars, boulders, crumbling banks. Stay in the water or sink. Leap together or die apart. The river spits them into a labyrinth of rapids, the creature’s howls fading… but the boat won’t hold. Not if they slip. Not if they miss.
