Each player receives seven dominoes in a two-player game or six dominoes if three or four players are participating, ensuring all tiles remain face-down to conceal their values throughout setup. The remaining dominoes form a shared pile called the pickaxe, reserved for drawing during gameplay when players cannot make a move from their current hand.
The domino game starts with whoever holds the highest double—the double-six—taking the first turn. If no one has this tile, the honor goes to the player with the next-strongest double. Each following participant must match a number from one end of the existing domino chain with their own tile. Victory is claimed by the first to play all their dominoes. If the game deadlocks with no valid moves left, all players count the pips on their remaining tiles—the person with the lowest total score wins.
