The horizon bled crimson as the last sun fractured into shards of amber and gold, casting jagged shadows across the ruins. Steel whispered against leather as the scavenger adjusted their respirator, eyes scanning the skeletal remains of skyscrapers clawing at the smog-choked sky. Somewhere in that necropolis of concrete and rust lay the Relic—a pulse of forgotten tech promising salvation or annihilation. Their boots crunched over glass shards fused to the asphalt by ancient fires, the air thick with static and the low hum of malfunctioning drones circling like vultures. Every breath tasted of ozone and decay. Every step risked awakening the things that prowled the dark—half-machine, half-madness, hungering for the warmth of living flesh. The scavenger gripped the modified plasma cutter tighter. Legends spoke of vaults beneath the city, of AI gods sleeping in crystalline servers. But legends were written by the desperate. Truth was currency here. Survival was doctrine. They pressed forward, the Relic’s coordinates burning in their neural interface like a fever dream. Tonight, the city would feast or forget. No third option.
